Avocado + Matcha(made) in Heaven Smoothie
So I'm back again with a new smoothie recipe!
A few days ago, I had to throw out my last matcha due to a recent pest control termination my apartment had to undergo, so I was back looking for another matcha at the supermarket. I ended up going to Whole Foods Market the other night and stumbled upon Matcha Love !
Other than the rich green color it has, I enjoy a good matcha latte to get my day going or on the weekends as a mid-day treat that doesn't get me super jittery or make me crash.
So- What is matcha exactly?
It is a Japanese superfood powder made from whole green tea leaves.
Benefits of matcha include:
- Amino Acid L-theanine that promotes relaxation
- boosts metabolism
- increases focus
- improve concentration and energy due to its high amounts of caffeine
- has catechins which are cancer-fighting antioxidants
- contains: Vitamins C, Zinc, Magnesium, Chromium
- source of Chlorophyll (seen in the bright and rich green color!)
Another tidbit of info is that matcha has 1/3 of the amount of coffee or about half the caffeine of an espresso. Even though it has less caffeine, all of the extra health benefits leave you with longer-lasting energy!
Instead of having it like I normally do, I ended up tossing it in a smoothie and added some, protein and healthy fats like the avocado. What this smoothie blend provides is a nice mix of super foods, to take your nutrition up a notch, protein and fats to keep you full and satisfied. Adding the protein and fat also help stabilize hunger hormones that turn off the hormones crave refined, processed foods.
